Against Malaria Foundation

Imagine two Boeing 747’s full of children under the age of 5. Now imagine them crashing in mid-air at the end of the runway - that’s how many children die every single day from malaria. Against Malaria Foundation works to prevent the spread of malaria by distributing long-lasting, insecticide-treated mosquito nets to susceptible populations in developing countries. For only $2.77 you can prevent a child from contracting malaria for up to 5 years.

Dispensers for Safe Water

An estimated 525,000 children under five die from diarrhea each year, often due to unsafe water. Their chlorine dispensers are installed directly next to untreated water sources, allowing residents to add a precise dose of diluted chlorine to their jerrican before filling it with water. At a cost of less than $1.50 per person per year, Dispensers for Safe Water is the most cost-effective approach to the challenge of unsafe water in poor, rural areas.

Deworm The World

There are more than 868 million children at risk for parasitic worms worldwide. These worms interfere with nutrient absorption and cause malnourishment, anemia, and impaired mental and physical development. The Deworm the World Initiative implements large-scale deworming programs, currently supporting treatment of an estimated 280 million children annually at an average cost of $0.86 per child per year.

Sanku:
Project Healthy Children

Over two billion people don’t receive the vitamins and minerals their bodies require to stay healthy, including iron, vitamin A, folic acid, and iodine. Project Health Children's mission is to provide children everywhere with the basic nutritional support they require to survive and thrive. PHC focuses on achieving wide micronutrient coverage for at-risk communities in Africa and beyond at an average cost of only $1.32 per child per year.

New Incentives

New Incentives educates caregivers about the importance of vaccinating children and disburses cash incentives that are conditional on infants receiving four life-saving vaccines, which are provided through government clinics free of charge. There is strong evidence that their program leads to more children being immunized from life-threatening but vaccine–preventable diseases.

StrongMinds

StrongMinds aims to improve the mental health of women living in poverty in Africa. Their mission is to provide affordable and evidence-based mental health services to those who need it the most. They train local therapists to deliver group talk therapy to women suffering from depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. By focusing on women, StrongMinds hopes to create a ripple effect that improves not only the mental health of the individuals but also their families and communities.

StrongMinds is making a meaningful impact on the mental health crisis in Africa, and their work is vital in helping to break the stigma surrounding mental health issues in the region.
