Champions of Change: Gaby Dabrowski

Welcome to HIA’s Champions of Change, a series of stories from our athletes who are using their platform to spark change and turn the sporting sector into a force for good. Today, we delve into the journey of Gaby Dabrowski, a champion who plays for much more than tennis titles.

Recognized for her exceptional skills on the court, Gaby boasts a mighty resume. She is the reigning US Open Doubles Champion, alongside fellow High Impact Athlete Erin Routliffe. In 2017, she became the first Canadian woman to win a Grand Slam title alongside her mixed doubles partner Rohan Bopanna. She has 14 WTA titles to her name, and has reached a world ranking of #4. But beyond her on-court achievements, Gaby's deep-rooted commitment to giving back has been a defining aspect of her career.

Gaby's recent HIA podcast provides insight into her compassionate worldview. When asked about the most pressing issue in the world, Gaby answered, "I think a lot of people haven't been able to get clear on who they are, what they're about, what their values are, and to live their lives knowing their values." By joining HIA, Gaby is making her values apparent – giving and kindness is paramount.

Through her collaboration with HIA, Gaby has been able to support an array of causes close to her heart in an extremely effective way. She quotes, “I’ve always wanted to be able to donate to charities that maximize my dollar. Through HIA, I can finally say that I’m confident in my donation having the most impact on causes I care deeply about." For Gab, those causes are women, animals, and climate. Her philanthropic efforts have supported organizations such as Population Services International, which improves women’s reproductive health and reduces poverty in some of the lowest-income countries in the world, The Humane League, fighting factory farmed animal cruelty, Clean Air Task Force, advocating for improved air quality and greenhouse gas reduction, and Strongminds, working on improving mental health in women in sub-Saharan Africa.

By choosing HIA, Gaby is part of a growing movement of athletes leveraging their platforms to champion meaningful change. It's the spirit of champions like Gaby Dabrowski, who don't just play the game but rise above it to change the world, that makes HIA's mission possible. Our "Champions of Change" series is a testament to these incredible athletes who show us that winning is not just about trophies or titles, but the difference you can make in the world around you. Through their dedication and commitment, we are reminded of the power of sports as a platform for societal good.

Gaby’s commitment to change doesn't stop at her donations. She's actively involved in HIA's community, a strong believer in the collective strength of athletes, and a long-serving member of the WTA Player Council. Her story is a call-to-action for others in the sports community to rally behind important causes.

At the end of the day, as Gaby reminds us, "What gives me the greatest fulfillment is being of service to others." We're proud to stand by Gaby Dabrowski and all of our High Impact Athletes, amplifying their impact, and inspiring us all to make a difference.
