Part II: Safe Water Reaches New Horizons in India
In the first part of our journey, we explored the power of safe water and how athletes and fans can make a profound impact by supporting Dispensers for Safe Water. From rural communities in Kenya, Uganda, and Malawi to countless lives transformed, this life-changing initiative has already made a significant difference.
Today, we embark on the second part of our series, where the wave of progress ripples even further. Delving into the exciting news that expands the reach of Dispensers for Safe Water into the vibrant land of India. Join us as we unfurl the partnership between Evidence Action and the Indian government, discovering how this collaboration will bring safe water to millions of people, forever changing their lives.
India, the world's most populous country, faces a pressing challenge when it comes to water. Millions of families, particularly in rural areas, are forced to rely on contaminated water sources, jeopardizing their health and well-being. Contaminated water is a grave concern, especially for children under five, as it contributes to the high prevalence of waterborne diseases, malnutrition, and child mortality. The Indian government recognized the urgency of addressing this crisis and established the ambitious Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in 2019 to provide safe tap water to every rural household. However, the need for water treatment became evident for true transformation to occur.
In a momentous stride towards transforming the Indian water landscape, Evidence Action has partnered with the Indian government to implement safe water solutions on an unprecedented scale. This technical assistance partnership aims to deliver treated, safe water to over 70 million people, potentially even reaching 100 million individuals across three states. The magnitude of this undertaking is awe-inspiring, as it holds the potential to save lives, improve health outcomes, and empower communities across India.
Evidence Action's expertise in scaling water treatment through its successful Dispensers for Safe Water program forms the backbone of this partnership. By leveraging existing infrastructure and local partnerships, Evidence Action has been able to provide over 6.8 million people in rural Kenya, Uganda, and Malawi with access to safe water. Now, armed with valuable experience and deep-rooted community engagement strategies, Evidence Action is prepared to bring the benefits of safe water to India's doorstep.
Any endeavor of this magnitude faces challenges, but Evidence Action and the Indian government are prepared to navigate and overcome them. From ensuring the adoption of water treatment systems to addressing operational hurdles, the partnership embraces a spirit of collaboration and innovation. Evidence Action's strong local team, which has cultivated relationships with government officials, will work closely with state governments to provide critical support, guidance, and expertise. Together, they will pave the way for sustainable, cost-effective solutions and empower local communities to take ownership of their water resources.
The opportunity to be a catalyst for change has never been more tangible. As athletes and fans, we understand the power of teamwork, dedication, and determination. Let us channel that same energy into transforming lives through safe water. By supporting Evidence Action's partnership with the Indian government, we can be part of a historic movement that brings safe water to millions, fostering health, education, and prosperity. Together, we can empower communities, break the cycle of poverty, and leave a lasting legacy of transformation.
As our two-part series concludes, we reflect on the immense impact that safe water can have on communities around the world. From the first blog, where we discovered the gift of safe water and its ability to transform lives, to this second chapter, working in partnership to enable millions more people this basic human right.
